Casey Berglund - Just Stop
===
Casey: [00:00:00] Well, hello there and welcome back to The Purpose Map podcast. I'm Casey Bergland, your host and the founder of Worthy and Well, and this episode today is for you if you are a leader, a founder, a change agent, or a guide who is feeling not like yourself. Maybe you're experiencing a sluggishness or a drowsiness, or feeling stressed or lacking motivation, or noticing yourself in more moments of anxiety and or depression.
Not wanting to get outta bed in the morning like you're not doing so hot. This is for you. If you're ready to acknowledge perhaps that. You're not yourself right now, and yet you keep trying. You're in your job, your role, your leadership position. You're uh, leading that company. You are an entrepreneur. You are [00:01:00] guiding others, and yet you're not feeling most optimal and you're maybe wonder.
Where the hell you went and or when. This is gonna stop. All of these stressful moments, it feels like, Mm. The universe just isn't on your side. You keep getting thrown with employees, quitting or drama at work, or something flies up in your face that leaves you feeling fatigued. I have a message for you.
Stop. Stop. Just stop. You likely experience a huge resistance to stopping. Especially if the next thing has not yet revealed itself, You don't have that next job lined up or that solution lined up, or you have no way of seeing how you're gonna make ends [00:02:00] meet if you just stopped stopping being, you know, Yeah, maybe to the extreme of shutting down your business.
But even just taking a day off, two days off, two weeks off, it feels almost impossible to stop and. You must stop. You're not serving your people through showing up in a way that is not optimal. You're not serving your people. When you are struggling to show up for yourself. You're not in alignment with your purpose or your dma when you're in a state of not feeling like, If you do not know who you are right now, if you feel frazzled, then you do not know how to act clearly in a way that is in alignment now.
So much love and compassion for you. Where is this coming from? I have been observing a theme in both my personal life. I've been [00:03:00] here before too, don't you worry. And also with friends and clients who are in these moments of big transition. And let me tell you, I'm a very positive person. I'm expansive. I am.
When I'm myself, I light up a room. I'm radiant every single one of these friends or clients that I'm speaking about right now. Are also that way. They know themselves to be radiant beings. They know themselves to be humans who, uh, enlighten others with their energy, with their words, with their gifts. They are ones who inspire and help others.
Trust me, like energy attracts like energy. I attract those folks who are smart, successful, ambitious, spiritually curious, bright lights. You are a lighthouse. Here's another message for you. You are a lighthouse even if you don't feel it right now. So I wanna invite you into [00:04:00] maybe feeling a little bit more open to this message, especially if you aligned with some of those symptoms that you might be feeling, not like yourself down, maybe even in a arc place.
However you're feeling right now is completely valid. You're not broken. There's nothing wrong with you. It's completely valid to be feeling the strug struggle or sluggishness or lack of motivation or fatigue, especially if you sense that something needs to change. Something that I witness when a person has used up their dhar.
In other words, they used to be aligned with this thing that they're doing, this leadership role that they're in, this company that they started, and it used to bring a radiance. It used to make their eyes shine. They used to feel [00:05:00] empowered and of service and like they would wake up in the morning to go to work feeling lit up.
That used to be the case and these symptoms. Just a sign that that dharma has been used up. Your next level purpose is calling, and yet, right now it all just kind of feels like shit. I see you if you resonate with this. I'm witnessing in clients, and when I reflect on people that I've worked with over the years, specifically as it relates to finding purpose after change or through change or expanding into their next level of.
I witness that there's this phase that nobody wants to be in , and it is the phase of stopping the phase of being in the nothingness. It's completely natural and completely human to want the next thing [00:06:00] lined up before letting go of the work or the energy or the drama or the relationship that is creating what I would call catabolic energy or constriction or contraction in your body.
It's depleting you. Everyone wants to have the next better thing lined up before they let go fully of the thing that's depleting. And I witnessed this over and over, there's a huge resistance to just stopping and taking a pause. And what I see is even in my own work, people will hire me and they're in this state of feeling really stressed, not feeling like themselves, feeling unmotivated, feeling depressed, having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning.
And of course there can be many causes to that. So I'm speaking from the lens of what I see as it relates to purpose and they want to just like keep doing, keep working, [00:07:00] keep keep like striving or grasping for the next thing. And yet there's no energy to really do that with a clear consciousness, with Inright relationship with self and.
They're paying me and they're showing up for these calls and I'm helping them, and I'm so grateful to be of support. I'm so here for it. I don't regret any of these moments, and I'm starting to notice a theme that what's really needed is to stop it all, including they're coaching with me to stop and to rest.
At some point, if you've been in chronic stress, and especially if chronic stress has been caused by misalignment, after misalignment, after misalignment in your work, doing, doing, doing in the same direction or in these little like micro directions, you know, like making little moves sometimes that just prolongs the [00:08:00] process.
Of finding that next level calling and sometimes it just prolongs the symptoms of feeling stuck. And it's my job most of the time to not tell people what to do, but rather to ask questions and help pull out their inner wisdom because they each have the wisdom inside. You have wisdom inside of you, your soul knows, and I trust that wholeheartedly.
Your soul knows it's my job to not give advice and. I've witnessed over and over again that what might be more helpful than striving for the next thing is actually just stopping what you're currently doing. Whether that be for a day, two days, a week, or, and you know, if this is you quitting that job that is bringing out the worst in.
Leaving that business that no longer allows you to be in that radiance of [00:09:00] yours, just stop. It's okay for you to rest. It's okay for you to take two weeks, two months, two years, 10 years off to be in a discovery of what's next, or even just to recuperate. Chronic stress takes a toll on your body. These symptoms I spoke of earlier, the contraction and the catabolic energy that comes with those symptoms take a bit of time to recover from, or they can and you deserve to have that time.
There's this theme where basically what I see many folks need before they leap into their next level is to actually just take a break and recuperate. To let their bodies lead in the most primal of ways to feed themselves to sleep 8, 9, 10, [00:10:00] 12 hours a night if they need to. If you're really feeling the fatigue, you may need more rest for a chunk of time, you know, to get their bodies moving again, to have some spaciousness and some time to feel.
To actually process the emotions, to feel the discomfort, instead of just bypassing that discomfort with more action. This is hard to do. We resist it. Why do we resist it? Hmm? Why do I resist stopping when I know that something's not aligned, but the next thing isn't yet lined up? I resist it because in that moment I'm lacking trust.
I'm lacking trust that it will be okay. I'm lacking trust that there's something bigger than me happening. I'm lacking trust that I am held and supported by life in every moment. I'm lacking trust. I'm lacking a remembering that it's always working out. Even if I've gone through a [00:11:00] really hard time in the past where I felt like nothing was working out, it actually was working out.
That thing actually led me to the next step or the next person, or the next purpose. I resist stopping because I lack trust, and often I lack trust because I also haven't had a moment to connect with myself in my truth and that deep, soulful voice inside. I'm very comfortable calling it the voice of God or the voice of the universe, or the voice of my inner self, the voice of life.
There is a deep truth that comes with an inner attune. And if you do not allow yourself that inner attunement, it can be harder to actually connect with the deeper truth that will guide your actions in a more aligned way. If you don't know who you are, you don't know what to do. Taking the time to drop back into who you are, to regain energy, to regain excitement for life, to regain your innocence, [00:12:00] to connect with the play and the joy that maybe expanded you as a kid.
That is the medicine. If you're feeling these symptoms, it's not hustling or pushing through and trying to find so hard the next. There are three people that I'm thinking of right now. One, a dear friend who is an executive director for a large company. Um, and this company Care Takes for the Elderly, another who is a entrepreneur, the owner of a business with a team, and, uh, their product in many stores and shop.
The third person is a service-based practitioner who, um, consults and coaches as it relates to health and nutrition. And when I bring these three people into my consciousness and I really attune to their [00:13:00] energy, each of them either is or has been in this space of exhaustion and. Trying to push through it, trying to find the next thing, trying to find a solution to all the problems that they see all around and they're exhausted.
One of them, the executive director, I witnessed her pushing, pushing, pushing through, and in one moment of her life. With a whole bunch of resistance because she's an independent woman who takes care of herself and leads others with a lot of resistance, taking a leave from work. and finally almost being forced to, she would say that being forced to give herself that moment of pause or that stop to be able to tune in.
And in that three months there was so much insight that came, there was so much life that she got back and went back to work with a different energy, even though she [00:14:00] still didn't have her full self yet. She needed more time. You know, it was three months. So like, shouldn't that be enough? Right. Our, our mind says to us, it wasn't enough time, but it was, it was better than nothing.
And then something happened. The company was bought by another company, which came with its own dynamics. A lot of disruption, a lot of drama created a lot of her staff members leaving, um, maybe moments of really trying to align with the messaging and the values of this. Company and the struggle continued and her fatigue and exhaustion started to decline just like it had before her stress leave, but almost worse, she started to feel resentful of the people she used to love working with.
She started to feel like, Is this me, this depression? I'm experiencing this feeling of like losing He. And this particular person did come [00:15:00] to a moment where there was that courage. There is that courage to to just stop, to quit without knowing what comes next. And that is not an easy decision. The other person, I'm thinking of, owner of a product based business, had a baby a couple of years ago and it changed everything and.
She has been doing her best to return to her work and to stay in the same energy she was in beforehand and do what she did beforehand. And of course she can. It's different now. She's a mother. The mother change has happened and she's gone on a deeps descent into feminine energy and feeling emotions and also resist it because she's human.
This is what we. The final person, I'm thinking of the coach provider in the healthcare space, service based [00:16:00] business owner. When I met her, she too was feeling these symptoms and part of what triggered this was an awareness through some of her spiritual practice and starting to attend women's circles and these like, um, priestessing circles, something was awakened in her.
So her shift or change came through having this part of her soul sparked in a spiritual way and. Trying to continue in the old way in her business. And when we met, she wanted to make that transition. She wanted to change and transition, and yet there was all this fatigue. It was too hard to act, and then the pressure to do just layered on more exhaustion and fatigue.
What she needed at that time was to stop and to rest. I worked with her a couple of years ago and recently connected with her, and she told me this from her own mouth. You know, I can see in retrospect how it [00:17:00] would've been more useful for me to just trust and to stop and to sleep and to take care of my body, and to let myself be supported by my partner.
And to just know that it would work out, because now, now that I've finally allowed myself to do that, I feel energized again and empowered again, and I'm ready to serve again. So with each of these people, they're in different stages. One is making the choice to stop without the next thing around the corner, and she's in it.
The other has been making small tweaks, small changes all along, and yet keeps finding herself in this phase of stress and exhaustion. Just wanting to like leave it all behind. With resistance to that very act, and the final person went through a trying to push through and then gave herself permission for many months to restore her system, and now says that's the best thing she could do to come back into [00:18:00] a place of even having the energy to serve.
Here's the message for you at some point in your journey, if there's this awareness, if your soul resonates with this message, and there's this awareness that there are these sensations, these uh, symptoms of. Exhaustion, fatigue, depression, anxiety, a lack of motivation, resentment for your team or your clients or your partner.
If you're feeling that and that just doesn't feel like you because you used to be radiant, you used to glow, your eyes used to shine, it might be time to stop and to trust, to stop and take care of your system. To feed yourself well, to connect in deep in meaningful ways with your people, to let yourself be supported, to get out into nature, to trust.
Now you might be saying, Ah, but what about the money ? [00:19:00] How did I know? You know, each of these three people, I'm speaking of our in partnership and, and even. With that, with having support from partners and with having even financial support from partners, of course that's made it a little bit easier to be able to let go and not have to push, push, push so hard, you know, from a money perspective.
Um, and they still struggled, right? Because, because. The people I attract want to be independent or have this conditioning to be independent or to take care of themselves. So of course there was resistance there. I'll speak from the eye as a single person in these moments. Sometimes trust means trusting.
That making a decision that perhaps according to your perception of what's conventionally responsible, irresponsible, I should say, making a decision that is seen conventionally as [00:20:00] irresponsible sometimes even trusting through that. Trusting, for example. I need to take time off and I know I'm sacrificing many thousands of dollars and I can't afford to do that cause I don't just have a savings account built up.
What is gonna happen here? Like I can't. It's trusting through that, trusting that even with debt, let's say that even if having to use a credit card, it's worth it, whatever it is for you. We have these made up stories about what's okay as it relates to money. I wonder in these moments where you're losing yourself, I, I can't think of something more important than getting yourself back.
I literally can't think of something more important for you to be able to show up in service to your family, to your partner, to your team members, to yourself. [00:21:00] There's nothing more important than you having. Being restored in your energy so that you can truly serve. You need to take that time. Don't let me tell you what to do.
You know what you need to do, and if there's a message of permission, it is to stop and to trust, because what happens in that stopping. Uh, self reclamation. Often I witness this, a self reclamation, uh, self-discovery that actually sparks the insight that is deep and meaningful and necessary for the next phase.
Don't discount moments of rest. Winter comes for a reason. We can't be on all the time, and especially if being on. On a misaligned path or on a path that is no longer your dharma, where your purpose or your dharma [00:22:00] is used up, that will deplete you. Take a pause, stop, redirect, trust, Ask, pray. Get support from others.
Tune into yourself. Let your body lead in the most primal sense, things will unfold. You will be okay for whoever needs this message today. Thank you for receiving it. Let me know what came up for you and I can't wait to chat with you very soon. You've got this.
